LIAF pitch

This is the final ppt of liaf pitch,(sadly can’t remove these watermarks.)

Initially i started to think about script really early ,but not much thought came up.after five times of changing the script,I choose to do my favorite thing, which is drawing naked woman with watercolor ,also showing the emotion changes during the process of thinking of ideas is interesting, even though my idea did not be picked but i think i will finish it in the future.

As for the process ,the script used to be the main character trying to balance her emotion which are desire and apathy,i was inspired by yoga, and also using two different color to show the emotions. So after the feedback of out tutor Ko, she inspired me a lot of story, its better to find a specific emotion to show it,so I choose a chinese poem called the desire can not be hidden, but due to the length of trailer would be, I need to shorten the poem, this part Ko helped me a lot,and also I cant believe I finished the storyboard in such short time ,one night

So the story can be summed up in one sentence,a girl is trying to find the answer of how to hide her emotion, which is desire, and the chinese poem is mainly about how to embrace out emotions.

As for the techniques, will be using are stop motion and 2d animation, where I will make the character in watercolor and shoot it frame by frame, accompanied with 2d digital backgrounds. The softwares that I will be using are Photoshop、After effects ,premiere.

The character design is a naked woman,I want to make her simple and basic so that she could represent how she changes as the seasons change, and the yellow circle symbolizes her desire.

The storyboard shows the process of how this character deals with her desire which could be represented visually with lines, background texture and performance of the human body, there will be plenty of transformations, and the character will perform alongside the music, the circle symbolized desire, and the woman will change colors symbolizing the changing of the seasons. Finally, the character grabbing a gold ball into her heart represents the completion of her journey. This is where she accepts the desire just as the poem said it can be transformed to motivation,it can not be hidden.

As the sketches that I mde for the performance and gestures of the character during the transformation.for the concept designs, where I will use strong textured backgrounds and watercolor character.I also did a rough animation test, which shows the transformation of the character,I will be adding follow-throughs in the future to make the animation smoother.

When it goes to references I took for the background and also my mood board. They are watercolor painting and bark-cloth art.I really like their strong textures and exaggerated patterns, which fit my vision for background design. The first one can be used as reference in the coconut tree scene. I love the way it ignores the perspectives, and also the woodblock art shows lovely graphic shapes which is the inspiration of transforming.

The paintings that I use as character references. They are a mix of abstract and figurative art. I especially like the use of white contours for the woman’s body and also the complex mixed colors.

As for the sound track, I am going to use the simple rhythm of piano, and environmental sounds. These dialogues are the english translated version of the chinese poem I will be using to highlight the character’s emotions in my animation.

Also the process of the struggle when i changing the story should be record ,maybe in the future can be a good idea.
